
Dr. Prafulla K. Chitnis, with over 30 years’ experience in the QC Micro space, has spearheaded Charles River India operations since its inception in 2008 and now supports Business Development in the Middle East, India, and Bangladesh. He holds a PhD in molecular biology from the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India. As a member of the Rockefeller Rice Biotechnology Foundation, he was actively involved in bringing Plant Molecular Genetics technology to India in the late 1980s. He is privileged to have been trained by Dr James Cooper in the Bacterial Endotoxins Test at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, USA. Later, in 1996, he worked closely with the Indian Pharmacopoeia to introduce the Bacterial Endotoxins Test in India. He also represented India in the “Joint International Validation of the Endotoxin Standard”. His long association with the Indian Pharmacopoeia continues to date, and he continues to contribute to the Indian Pharmacopoeia as a member of the Expert Working Group. He has conducted many workshops and training programmes across India, including some in collaboration with the PDA India Chapter, for the pharma industry on risk management in microbiology, with a focus on endotoxin testing, biological indicators, and microbial identification.
